Setup VirtualBox, OPM-Flow Simulator and ResInsight to run the Volve Oilfield Model

OPM-Flow is an open source fully implicit, black oil reservoir simulator developed under the Open Porous Media Initiative. The simulator is based on a Linux workspace and requires the installation of a virtual-box in windows based machines. We’ll be using this simulator for our simulation and visualization of the Volve oilfield model.

SIMULATION MODEL GRID and EDIT Section Description – Part 2/5

The GRID section determines the basic geometry of the simulation grid and various rock properties (porosity, absolute permeability, net-to-gross ratios) in each grid cell. From this information, the program calculates the grid block pore volumes, mid-point depths and inter-block transmissibilities.

SIMULATION MODEL RUNSPEC Section – Part 1/5

The Volve field simulation directory has ECLIPSE and CMG simulation software input files. In this article, we'll describe the first part of the ECLIPSE simulation model (VOLVE_2016_EXPAND.DATA) which includes an overview on the simulation run specifications [RUNSPEC] They build the Volve simulation Model on 680 x 400 total cells with runs distributed on a machine with 4 parallel cores. It simulates a black oil fluids model, starting from 31 Dec 2007, using the 6 production wells and 2 injection wells.

Core Description – Mineralogy and Petrology

Statoils Geological Laboratory performed whole rock X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Petrographic point count, and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis on cored intervals of the 15/9-19 SR Well. The analysis characterizes the mineralogy and petrography of these sandstone units and evaluates their controls on reservoir quality.  ...  (Read more)
